    • Reviewed the inside covers of the constitution. Honesty, Integrity, Fairness, Equality, Respectful treatment, Family Consideration, Common Sense, Decisions Benefiting the Members, Decisions Promoting the Workers, Involvement (including stakeholders) Democratic processes.
    • A moment was taken to think about Covid 19, and the strains on members, and their family.  We need to promote proper behavior, and a positive message regarding the vaccination.

  1. National Committee Business

a.      Apprenticeship Committee: Committee updateprovided by Geoff Denstedt.

  • April 7th 2021, was last meeting, committee meets every 2 weeks.
  • John Wabb gave a presentation regarding the training trust to the committee.
  • Budget to be submitted next month.

b.      Audit Committee: Committee updateprovided by Craig Batty.

  • A package is being prepared to be shared with the audit committee, to complete a audit this month.

c.       Communications Committee:Committee update provided by Mark Keyes, and Janet Crowther.

  • Meeting held last week, and future meeting in 2 weeks.
  • Budget is being prepared.
  • Working on a quarterly newsletter, reaching out to unit, and committee chairs. Action Kevin Forbes to get email distribution list for committee.
  • Member Perks Program, Venngo presentation provided to the NEB.

d.      Constitution Committee: Committee update provided by Tom McLean, Geoff Denstedt,

  • Convention planning meeting held last Tuesday.
  • Committee is being educated on the history of our constitution.

e.      Growth and Opportunity Committee: Committee update provided by Tom MacLean.

  • Meeting held last week with reps and committee members.
  • Worked on updating the growth plan, and reviewed successes, and areas that still need work.New plans are being formulated.
  • Nuclear Industry subcommittee will bring its budget forward to the NEB.
  • Nuclear Industry Sub Committee: Committee update reviewed from portal.
  • Health, Safety & Wellness Committee: Committee update was provided by Joe Mulhall.
    • Annual Health Safety and Wellness conference to be held tomorrow April 10, 2021, and starts at 8:30, 99 People are currently registered to attend this virtual event.
    • We have some guest speakers lined up, and personal one on one conversation can be had in the virtual lobby integrated with the event.

h.      Member and Family Support Committee:Committee update reviewed from portal.

i.        Membership Committee: Committee update provided by Jeff McGowan, and Matt Hurley

  • Meeting held yesterday.
  • Working on a membership decline letter. Looking for NEB feed back.

j.        Negotiating Committee:Committee update provided by Jacob Lyon.

  • A virtual orientation meeting was held last month for members interested in collective agreement bargaining.
  • Virtual training seasons is set held over the next 8 weeks in 4 sessions held every other weekend, and 33 people currently registered to attend.
  • Virtual training program to cover History of agreements, how we got to where we are, different negotiation styles, how to negotiate, when the optimal start point is, how to get on bargaining on neutral ground.
  • Additional training on alliance learning is available for an introduction to bargaining.
  • Bargaining Rights sub-committee to be established.

  • Working on a plan to communicate to retired members with Amy Tam,
  • Planning on annual August golf tournament.
  • Replacement Jackets for future retirees have been received.

  • St Patrick day picture contest held.
  • Easter colouring contest ending today.
  • Still waiting the NEW decision on the trivia game contest. NEB to add it to addend for today’s meeting.

  • Meeting held this past week.
  • Advocate support system, looking to continue, and getting others involved.
  • Human rights training with Ian fellows, and Janet Steward. 22 people are currently interested.
  • Looking to further promote the committee.
  • Tradeswomen Sub Committee:
    • Committee is working on a webpage, on the CUSW.CA site. A designed has been hired for a log, still working on the strategic plan, and terms of reference.
    • Working with Craig Batty on budget.
    • A zoom account has been created.
    • A meeting to be held this weekend.

    • 18 Georgian college students are now all off to work at Hydro One and Bruce Power.
    • July 5th 24 more students to start program at Georgian College. We are still waiting on the government rollout.
    • New Covid cases continue with different employers.
    • A need to build up representatives in new work places.

    • Meeting held with Constitution Committee, Bruce Unit Executive Committee, and individuals that have volunteered to organizer with the hosting unit.
    • Convention Planning Guide reviewed.
    • A budget has been set at $100,000.00.

    • Action: to engage with Kris Stevens

 

  1. IT System, IT Infrastructure and Web Portal Working Group Update:Report provided by Joe Mulhall.
    • Lots of people are providing a joint effort to tackle this task, it is consuming lots of additional office support, and the support levels fluctuate from day to day. An eye needs to be kept on this unforeseen issue, to monitor for success.

 

  1. Canadian Immigration Project Update:
    • The Canadian Government with resume immigration with a large volume. This will occur over the next several years.

 

  1. ETTF Recommendation – Apprentice Trade School Reimbursement Policy:
    • This has be refer to the Apprenticeship Committee, we are stillawaiting feedback.

 

  1. MOLTSD Modernizing the Skilled Trades &Apprenticeship Act Engagement:
    • Still not opened up, but should be able to provide an update shortly

 

  1. MOLTSD Skills Development Fund Application:
    • We still haven’t heard anything, but we have on boarded a new partner.

 

  1. Workplace Capacity Building Plan – Steering Committee Update:
    • Update provided by Cody Quan.

 

  1. Mid-Year Review of Strategic Initiatives – March 25, 26 & 27:
    • Review motions and actions and help rollout with units/committees, reps, and workplaces.

 

  1. Scholarships and Bursaries:
    • Cody, Marissa, Apprenticeship committee, Training and education committee, and north western unit to be engaged to see if they have any ideas for future scholarships and Bursaries.

    • Who will take care of Data entry? Would the Committee have the capacity to do this?
    • If we don’t get enough use of the program, what are the terms for cancellation?
    • How can we come up with a unique identifier? One that’s not related to the user name on the website.
    •  Could the Communication committee engage the social committee to see if they would have any additional interest in helping?

  1. Bruce Unit Strategic Plan: Reviewed by NEB.

 

  1. Bruce Unit Budget: Motion to approve budget for additional $25388.69 to give Bruce Unit funds for complete budget. M/S Geoff Denstedt, Kris Croteau consensus.

 

  1. Conventions Duties of the Executive Board: Theme of the convention: Something that revolves around Community.

 

Notes: CUSW Committees Working Together, Prosperity through Resilience.

  • Thursday arrival including Unit and Committee Chairs.
  • Friday Chair training.
  • Orientation Friday evening.
  • Convention open Saturday morning Unit and Committee presentations.
  • Sunday morning resolutions.
  • Recording of Convention: NEB agreed to do this again.
  • Graphic recording: Engage graphic recorders again similar to previous 2 conventions.
  • Event Coordinator: Units and Committees presentations to have coordination provided for those that wish to have assistance. Coordinator to help keep presentations on track.
  • Delegate Nominations Schedule: nomination forms to be sent out in May, Count ballots in July, this gives membership 3 months to prepare.
  • Legal Counsel: we will require legal counsel to attend, and to review existing constitution prior to resolutions.
  • Potential Guest list: Mark Brookes. York, other CCU partners, PWU President, James Herman,
  • Resolution Teaser: Pick 10 resolutions that got passed to help shape what CUSW is today.
